Measure temperature of the given liquid using RTD or Thermocouple and PLC

Aim:

Measure temperature of the given liquid using RTD or Thermocouple and PLC.

Apparatus Required:

PLC software, NO and NC switches.

Procedure:-

  1. Load the RS Logix software to the PC.
  2. Open the RS Logix software.
  3. Switch On the PLC trainer.
  4. Open the New project and draw the ladder logic program.
  5. Compile the program.
  6. Run the Program.
  7. Give force and observe the output.

Concept structure:

Temperature Temperature condition Action taken by PLC
00C to 64.90C Heater ON and cooler OFF
650C Lower cut off Both heater and cooler are OFF
700C Upper cut off Both heater and cooler are OFF
70.10C to 1000C Heater OFF and cooler ON

Problem statement :

  1. Temperature controller will start when START switch is closed.
  2. Temperature shall be maintained between 600C to 700C.
  3. When the temperature is less than 600C the heater is turned ON and cooler is OFF.
  4. When the temperature is greater than 700C the heater is turned OFF and cooler is ON.
  5. Temperature range is 00C to 1000C.

Conclusion:

  1. When the measured temperature is less than lower cut off temperature------------------------------then (heater/cooler) is ON.
  2. When the measured temperature is greater than higher cut off temperature ------------------------------then (heater/cooler) is ON.

Questions:

  1. State need of temperature controller in various industries?
  2. List advantages of temperature controller using PLC.
  3. List comparing instruction of PLC.
  4. List out types of continuous and discontinuous controller.
  5. List out various type of temperature transducer used for measurement of temperature.
